Charles Finney once wrote:

“Brethren, our preaching will bear its legitimate fruits. If immorality prevails in the land, the fault is ours in a great degree. If there is a decay of conscience, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the public press lacks moral discrimination, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the church is degenerate and worldly, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the world loses its interest in religion, the pulpit is responsible for it. If Satan rules in our halls of legislation, the pulpit is responsible for it. If our politics become so corrupt that the very foundations of our government are ready to fall away, the pulpit is responsible for it. Let us not ignore this fact, my dear brethren; but let us lay it to heart, and be thoroughly awake to our responsibility in respect to the morals of this nation.”

(The Decay of Conscience, 1873 – Charles Finney)

Times, although centuries ago, were faced with the same attacks on Christian beliefs as well as great moral decline.

It is no wonder why we are were we are after reading the passage below in Acts 1. Jesus, right before His ascension, prohibited His disciples from going out into the world and preaching the gospel without first, receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The other scripture below tell us why He said that. The Holy Spirit guides us into all truth and how we should live the Christian life.

The Holy Spirit has been replaced with church growth. The altars have been replaced with stages.

When we go without the Holy Spirit’s lead and direction, then it is no longer God doing the work but man, us, the flesh working. Obviously, you see great mega churches today through administrative means but Jesus never told us to go and administratively build the church. He said to wait for the Holy Spirit indwelling so that He can do His work through us.

Jesus even said: ‘You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.’ John 5:39-40

Jesus doesn’t have us to have a feel good bless me club that meets every Sunday and has an espresso cafe where you can drink a Caramel Machiatto while sitting in church in comfortable chairs hearing a feel good message. He has us knowing Him more and more and being transformed by His power by the Holy Spirit and His Word, daily.

We need to allow the Holy Spirit back into our churches, our lives, as not a supplemental of Christianity. The Holy Spirit is the lead of the Church today. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit in His place to do greater works than He did.

Let’s wait again and only do and say what the Holy Spirit tells us to do. We’ve already seen what man can do. Now it’s time to get back to living a Christian life with power and authority through the Holy Spirit.

Scriptures on the Holy Spirit:

'And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.'
John 14:16-18
'And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. '
John 16:7-11,13-14
'And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; '
Acts 1:4
